Heavy Duty Overhead Chain Conveyor (XT Series)

The XT Series Heavy Duty Overhead Chain Conveyor is a closed-track overhead conveyor system built by Hangzhou Ocean Industry for plants that must move very heavy or bulky workpieces around the clock. Instead of dragging loads across the shop floor, this overhead conveyor lifts and carries them on a continuous, die-forged chain that runs along a steel I-beam track suspended above the production line - freeing valuable floor space and keeping every workstation clear.

Every overhead conveyor we build starts with the chain. The XT chain is die-forged, heat treated and assembled to tight tolerances, so it delivers the traction, fatigue resistance and dimensional stability demanded by continuous multi-shift operation. Trolley, track and drive unit are matched to the same standard, which means buyers get a single, accountable source for the complete overhead conveying system instead of a patchwork of parts.

Whether you are replacing an ageing hanger line, extending an existing overhead conveyor system, or designing a brand-new paint, drying or assembly line from scratch, the XT Series overhead conveyor can be laid out to suit your building. Horizontal curves, vertical bends, inclines and multi-level loops are all supported, so the track follows your process rather than the other way around.

Key Advantages of the XT Overhead Conveyor

  • Die-forged, heat-treated chain - high tensile strength and strong resistance to wear and fatigue keep the overhead conveyor running smoothly for years.
  • High payload per trolley - single-point lifting capacity of 1.25 kN, 2.5 kN and 5 kN for the XT80 (XT76.2), XT100 and XT160 models respectively.
  • True three-dimensional routing - the chain articulates freely in both the horizontal and vertical planes, so the overhead conveyor can climb, descend and turn without extra transfer stations.
  • Continuous-duty construction - engineered for 24/7 operation with low downtime and a light maintenance workload.
  • Wide working temperature window - standard configuration rated from -20 °C to 200 °C, suitable for baking ovens, drying tunnels and other high-temperature zones.
  • Selectable conveying speeds - five speed steps are available for each model, and a frequency inverter can be fitted to match your process takt time.
  • Modular track sections - standard I-beam sizes (8#–16#) keep the overhead conveying system economical and easy to extend later.
  • Custom load carriers - hangers, spreaders and fixtures can be designed around your specific product and process.

Product Structure & Key Components

Trolley (Die-Forged Slide)

The trolley is the load-bearing heart of the overhead conveyor. It carries the weight of the workpiece, the spreader and the chain itself, and it absorbs the resultant force created by chain tension inside every vertical bend. At the same time it keeps the chain travelling precisely along the designed track line. Where the spacing between two loaded carriages along the line exceeds roughly 800–900 mm, an additional load carriage can be inserted in the intermediate position to raise the carrying density of the overhead conveyor.

XT Forged Chain

The forged chain is the traction element that pulls the whole overhead conveyor. For the XT80 (XT76.2) and XT100 models, two chain variants are available, and both are able to rotate freely in the horizontal and vertical directions - the property that lets the overhead conveyor negotiate tight two-plane curves without special corner units.

Temperature Expansion Rail

When the overhead conveyor track passes through a high-temperature zone such as a baking or curing oven, temperature expansion joints must be fitted at both ends of the hot section. One end of each joint is welded firmly to the track; the other end is made as a sliding sleeve that mates with the adjacent rail. A defined clearance between the two rails is essential - it absorbs the thermal deformation caused by the hot environment, prevents the track system from being damaged and keeps the overhead conveyor running smoothly.

Typical Applications

  • Automotive and motorcycle assembly, engine and body painting lines
  • Surface treatment, electroplating, powder coating and dip-coating plants
  • Food and beverage processing - baking, drying, freezing and sterilisation tunnels
  • Metallurgy, foundry and heat-treatment workshops
  • Home appliance, hardware and furniture manufacturing
  • Warehouse and distribution centres needing continuous vertical circulation

Customisation Options

  • Model selection - XT80 (XT76.2), XT100 or XT160, matched to your load and track length
  • Track layout - horizontal curves, vertical bends, inclines and multi-level loops
  • Drive arrangement - multiple chain take-up positions and drive placements available

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is a heavy duty overhead chain conveyor used for?

It is a continuous overhead conveyor that carries heavy or bulky loads above the work area on a die-forged chain and I-beam track. Typical uses include painting and coating lines, high-temperature drying ovens, assembly lines and long-distance circulation of parts between workstations.

Q2. What industries normally use this overhead conveyor?

Automotive, motorcycle, home appliances, hardware, furniture, food processing, surface treatment, electroplating and heat treatment are the most common sectors. Any plant that needs to move heavy items continuously above the floor can benefit from an overhead conveyor.

Q3. How much weight can the overhead conveyor carry?

Single-point lifting capacity is 1.25 kN for the XT80 (XT76.2), 2.5 kN for the XT100 and 5 kN for the XT160. The allowable chain tension and minimum breaking force for each model are listed in Table 1 above; total line capacity also depends on the number of trolleys and the track layout.

Q4. Which XT model should I choose?

Select the model according to your maximum single-piece weight, the required track length and the number of loaded trolleys. As a rule, heavier workpieces and longer lines call for the larger XT100 or XT160 models. Send us your load data and we will recommend the most economical option.

Q5. How long can the overhead conveying line be?

Line length is decided by the total chain tension, the drive power and the number of curves in the layout. The XT Series is designed for long, multi-curve circuits, and our engineers will confirm a feasible layout once your drawing and load details are available.

Q6. Can the conveyor run through high-temperature ovens?

Yes. The standard configuration is rated from -20 °C to 200 °C, and temperature expansion rails must be installed at both ends of any hot section so the track can expand and contract safely.

Q7. What conveying speeds are available?

Five speed steps are available for each model, for example 0.12~1.2, 0.21~2.1, 0.33~3.3, 0.48~4.8 and 0.83~8.3 m/min for the XT80. A variable-frequency drive can also be supplied so the operating speed can be adjusted to your process.

Q8. Does the chain turn in both horizontal and vertical directions?

Yes. The XT chain rotates freely in both planes, which allows the overhead conveyor to follow a three-dimensional route with horizontal curves, vertical bends and inclines without additional corner mechanisms.

Q9. Can the overhead conveyor be integrated with our existing line?

Yes. The modular track and standard I-beam sections make it straightforward to connect the overhead conveyor to existing production equipment or to extend a line that is already in service.

Q10. What drive and motor options do you offer?

Conveyor power ranges from 1.1–2.2 kW for the XT80 (XT76.2) and 1.5–2.2 kW for the XT100 up to 2.2–4 kW for the XT160, depending on the model and layout. Drive position, gearbox ratio and voltage can be matched to your site conditions.

Q11. How is the system installed and supported?

The track is supported from the building structure through standard brackets and hangers. We supply layout drawings and installation guidance, and our technical team can advise on the support spacing and interface points for your building.

Q12. What maintenance does an overhead chain conveyor need?

Because the chain and trolley are die-forged and heat treated, routine maintenance is light: periodic chain lubrication, inspection of trolley wheels and regular checks on drive components are normally sufficient to keep the overhead conveyor in good working order.

Q13. Can you customise hangers and load carriers?

Yes. Hangers, spreaders and fixtures are designed around your specific workpiece and process, so the overhead conveyor can carry your product in the orientation that suits painting, drying or assembly best.

Q14. How are the components packed and shipped?

Components are packed in suitable industrial export packing, with chains, trolleys, track sections and drive units protected against transport damage. Packing method and shipment terms are confirmed with you before delivery.

Q15. How do I get a quotation for an overhead conveyor?

Please send your maximum load, required track length, layout sketch, working temperature and target speed. With those details our engineers will propose a suitable XT model and prepare a quotation for your overhead conveyor project.
